As the wireless industry prepares for 5G deployment, this level of connectivity will impact the mobile network and infrastructure that the industry has been building for the past 20 years.
As technology and data demand grows, “small cells are already beginning to supplement the operations of existing 4G macro towers, and will initially be the central strategy by which telecom operators deal with this ongoing growth in demand for mobile capacity and coverage ultimately leading to the full-scale 5G deployment,” according to an industry report by Accenture.
The technology development could impact cell site landlords as 5G gains momentum. While existing towers will still be integral to the infrastructure, 5G deployment will also use small cell technology on lamp posts, utility poles and more allowing for increased connectivity and meeting consumer demand.
